FAQ

What length of gaff do I need?

  • Length is mostly dependent on your boat's freeboard (distance from the waterline to the boats deck) so that you're comfortably within reach to make contact with your fish.   Typically, the longer the gaff the quicker you can get a good hook set to get the fish onboard without loss.

Which model gaff hook is right for me?

    There are 3 options provided for gaff hooks;

  • 1. Mustad Gaff Hooks:  Arguably the most popular gaff hooks in the world.  They are made with carbon steel with a duratin coating by Mustad.  Fishscale Gaff Co takes it a step further and adds a colorful ceramic coating to add an extra barrier of protection from corrosion while also adding style to your gaff. Heavier than Titanium Hooks, Lighter than Stainless Steel Hooks
  • 2. Stainless Steel Gaff Hooks:  Made from marine grade 316SS and thus, rust proof.  If your gaff stays on the water full time this is something to consider to ensure no corrosion for the life of your gaff.
  • 3.  Titanium Gaff Hooks: by Fishscale Gaff Co. are the most elite choice of material for any gaff hook.  They are roughly 2x stronger and 3x lighter than steel.  They will not corrode and can be anodized to shades such as bronze or gold or simply leave it in polished titanium.
